Despite years of advertising the convenience and safety of using Mastercard Contactless payments, New Zealanders just weren’t adapting to Tap & Go™.

Our brief was to transform the purchasing behavior of New Zealanders from a card-inserting, pin-punching nation, to a country of proficient tappers.

The solution was simple. Richie McCaw, retired captain of the New Zealand All Blacks was still under contract with Mastercard for one last year. Rather than stick him in an ad, we figured New Zealanders would do anything to see Richie come out of retirement to play one last game.

As it turned out, we were right.

 

The project won the first awards for McCann Sydney in decades.
